A Police officer attached to the Ughelli Area Command Dragon 19 Squad, in the Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, has been killed by suspected gunmen at a checkpoint, along the Ogor-Evwreni axis of the East-West Road.

The murdered officer, identified as Jude Ukpaka, was shot dead, and his AK-47 rifle was carted away by the gunmen.

According to local sources, the late officer and two of his other colleagues were at a checkpoint, when they were attacked late Wednesday evening.

It was also gathered that there was an attack on travellers in the early morning of the same day, before the police attack in the evening.

It would be recalled that barely two months ago, two police officers, Police Constable, PC Ujeyah Matthew and Sergeant Ijeibu, attached to the Ofuoma Division, were killed by suspected gunmen, at the Ejredjebor community in Ughelli North.

Meanwhile, the Delta State Police Command has not reacted to the development.
