The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has expressed concern over what he called derogatory remarks on the porosity of Nigerian borders by Nigerians, saying it will only continue to stir up unnecessary concern about the security of the country.

Aregbesola disclosed this while addressing officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, in a virtual message to the officers of the Kwara State Command in ilorin where he challenged them to address the issues of border porosity at all cost.

He maintained that effective security of Nigerian borders will go a long way to guard against human trafficking and illicit movement of dangerous weapons.

Also speaking at the event, Comptroller NIS, Kwara State Command, Edith Onyemena, noted that all the borders surrounding Kwara State are properly manned to prevent any form of porosity adding that hundreds of immigrants have been prevented from gaining access into the country during COVID-19 lockdown.

Meanwhile, one of the stakeholders, Kamarudeen Yusuf, believes the NIS is now taking the right steps in the right direction as it used to be in the olden days by ensuring proper border control which he said has reduced a lot of dangers in the country.
