Nigeria’s House of Representatives has asked the Inspector General of Police, IGP to take over the investigation and ensure prosecution of officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA involved in the killing of a 2-year-old, Ivan Ohmonrina in Delta State.

The lawmakers also asked law enforcement agencies to
provide regular training and sensitization programs for their officers on the appropriate use of firearms, conflict resolution, de-escalation techniques, and respect for human rights

This followed a motion calling for the need to Investigate what the lawmakers described as” a sad incident”, saying the death of Ivan Ohmonrina should not be swept under the carpet.

The lawmakers also mandated the Committee on National Security and Intelligence (when constituted) to
effectively monitor the activities of law enforcement agencies, including conducting regular evaluations, reviewing incidents, and recommend appropriate actions to prevent similar occurrences.
