NCAA doubts compliance with flight resumption guidelines by VIP security escorts

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has raised concern over the Number of Security details that accompany top government officials and politicians to the Airport, leading to overcrowding at the terminals and violating the crowd control coronavirus preventive guidelines.

The Director-General, Captain Musa Nuhu made this know on an online Zoom meeting with Airport management officials and experts to fine-tune the operation guidelines ahead of the resumption of flight operations across the country.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN on thursday published operation guidelines for the resumption of Nigerian airport activities.

Although the federal government is yet to announce the reopening date for flight operations, airlines, airports as aviation agencies have been asked to develop guidelines for resumption.

In an online meeting with key players in the sector, to review guideline documents and to physically confirm the existence of the needed equipment before issuing a directive on flights resumption, the director-general, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Captain Musa Nuhu said some top govt officials, politicians and other VIPs security escorts were engaged in fierce arguments with airport security by forcing their ways through the arrival and departure hall.

Nuhu urged all airlines operators to step up measures and implementation for good services to regain customers’ confidence after the resumption of flight operations.
             
Part of the listed guidelines includes people coming to pick passengers are to remain in their cars until the passenger’s exit gate, maintaining 6 feet distance from other travellers at all times and arrival at the airport with facemasks three hours before flight due to the new COVID-19 safety checks.

Upon resumption, only domestic flights will be in operation before the reopening of international flights for passengers.

The online meeting of airport key players on COVID-19 new guidelines ahead of resumption continues until all plans are fully put in place for proper implementation of airport operations.
