A Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out a suit filed against the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki alleging forgery of his University of Ibadan Degree certificate.

Justice Anwuli Chikere struck out the suit for want of diligent prosecution because when the suit came up on Monday, neither the plaintiffs nor their counsel were in court.

Neither the defendants nor their legal representatives were in court.

The plaintiffs, Edebor Williams, Ugbesia Abudu and Amedu Ahmeku contended that the alleged certificate forgery contravenes section 182 subsection 1(i) of the 1999 Constitution.

They argued that the governor’s educational information contained in Part C of the Form CF 001 which he submitted to INEC on July 12, 2016 and the first degree certificate of Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies, said to have been obtained from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, was forged.

Among other prayers, they sought leave of the court to hold that Governor Obaseki is not qualified to run or seek re-election in the September 19 governorship election.

The University of Ibadan had earlier this month affirmed that the beleaguered governor obtained a degree of the university’s in 1979
