Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, has again secured the deployment of 780 police personnel by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu, to boost the fight against recalcitrant bandits in the State.

This new development followed the Governor’s visit to the IGP’s office on Friday in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The Governor in a statement by his Director-General Press Affairs, Yusuf Idris, said this is in continuation of efforts to rid the State of banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling.

The statement said the new set of personnel are expected to arrive at the State as soon as possible. They include Police Mobile Force, PMF, Counter-Terrorists Unit, CTU, Special Forces, and various other squads that will join other existing security agents in the final march to clear the remnants of unrepentant bandits in the State.

It also said this is coming on the heels of the ongoing special Army operations currently taking place in the State and being personally led by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, alongside other top-ranking officers of the Nigerian Army.

The IGP recently deployed two Mobile Police Squadrons to the State about two months ago to frustrate the activities of the insurgents in Maradun and Shinkafi Local Government Areas of the State.

The statement further said Governor Matawalle will continue with the carrot and stick policy of eradicating banditry through dialogue with a renewed call on all bandits to lay down their arms and embrace peace.

The Governor also lauded the unflinching support his administration is receiving from President Muhammadu Buhari in the ongoing fight against banditry in the State.
