The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has opened and closed its defense in the petition filed by Beatrice Itubo, the labour party governorship candidate in Rivers state after tendering 3 different documents in support of their case.
The counsel for INEC Abdulkareem Mustapha SAN did not call any witnesses but rested his case on the case of the petitioner and the evidence elicited from the petitioners witnesses during cross-examination.
The Petitioners who are Beatrice Itubo and Labour Party had earlier closed their case after calling 10 witnesses including Itubo to prove their case.
Counsel for Fubara Okey Ukala SAN, however, pleaded with the court to allow them open their defense on Wednesday instead of Tomorrow as they were taken unaware by the action of INEC.
The three-member panel led by Justice Cletus Emifonye in Ukala’s favour fixed August 2nd for Fubara who is the 3rd respondent to open his defense.
Beatrice Itubo Is challenging the election of Simnalayi Fubara on grounds of electoral malpractices.
she is also seeking the conduct of a fresh election in Rivers State.
