Calabar Doctors Kidnap: NMA Protests Over Non-Release Of Colleague, Nineteen Days After

Nineteen days after the yet-to-be-released Professor Ekanem Philip, a medical doctor who was abducted by kidnappers, the Nigerian Medical Association NMA Cross River State Council has staged a peaceful protest even under heavy rainfall.

The group called for the unconditional release of Professor Ekanem Phillip Ephriam who was abducted from her residence on 13th July 2023, around Atimbo in the Calabar Municipality Area Council.

Currently, all Doctors in public and private hospitals have downed tools across the State, calling for the unconditional release of their colleague.

Speaking during the protest Chairman of NMA in Cross River State, Dr Felix Archibong said doctors in the State can no longer withstand the trauma.

Addressing the protesting doctors,speaker of Cross River House of Assembly, Alvert Ayambem,
assured the NMA of continued intervention that would enable the abducted doctor to be released unhurt.

The protesters who moved around strategic locations in Calabar were later received by the Deputy Governor of Cross River State,Peter Odey who assured them of Government’s quick intervention.
