The Rivers State Government says it has put in place measures that will mitigate the flooding predicted across the state by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency NiMet.
This was made known during a meeting between the Rivers State Flood Management Committee and chairmen of the 23 local government area, to discuss how best to prepare for the floods and ensure minimal damage to lives and property.

The committee says it has drawn up an action plan that includes the clearing of waterways, vaccination of the people against diseases as well as the provision of shelter and relief materials to internally displaced persons.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency NiMet has predicted that a number of Nigerian states, including Rivers, will experience severe flooding.
The forecast suggests that 19 out of the 23 local government areas of Rivers State may be affected.
