The Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, says the video of a vandalised standard gauge rail track being circulated on various social media platforms is not any of those operated by the corporation.

In a statement issued by its Abuja-Kaduna Office, the corporation pointed out that, upon close observation of the video, it is clear that trains have not passed on the track for some time, as it is devoid of the usual shining evidence of friction between the wheels and the rail.

The corporation stated that unlike what is being obtained from the video, its only double-track standard gauge rail line, which is the Lagos-Ibadan corridor, has been operational daily, and the tracks are not rusty.

While the corporation states that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, had arrested a gang that specialises in vandalising track accessories and signalling equipment at the Katari area along the Abuja-Kaduna corridor, it has yet to respond to the warning over a possible attack on the same corridor, issued by the Department of State Services, through a memo addressed to its Managing Director, Fidel Okhiria.

Since the beginning of its operations, the Abuja-Kaduna Railway has recorded routine terror attacks, with the March 2022 incident, which claimed over six lives, and had many passengers abducted.

It was recognised as the deadliest.
