The Nigerian Emergency Management Agency NEMA, has started its sensitization campaign ahead of the 2023 flood forecast by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency NIMET.
NEMA’s South-south Zonal Coordinator, Godwin Tepikor said this when he met with the flood management team in Ahoada West Local government Area of Rivers State, one of the hard-hit during the 2022 floods.
The flood management team, made up of the Nigerian Security And Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, Traditional Rulers, Unions and Community Leaders, says its objective is to transverse all the communities in Ahoada West to enlighten the people on the need to be prepared ahead of the forecasted flood.

Ahoada West local government chairman, Hope Ikiriko acknowledged NEMA’S prepatory efforts and said the flood management team will take their message to the nooks and crannies of the council area.
NIMET in its forecast says 178 local government areas in thirty two states of the country will experience heavy rainfall and consequent flooding.
