The Niger State government says it is planning to reduce regular movements of herders from the state to other parts of Nigeria by providing basic amenities to the Fulani community at the Bobi Grazing Reserve in Mariga Local Government Area.
The Commissioner, Ministry of Livestock and Fishery Development, Haruna Dukku, said the measure is part of the efforts by the state government to provide quality meat and milk to Nigerians.
While soliciting the support of the Fulanis in the reserve on the success of the project, the Commissioner assured the youth and women that the empowerment programme by the state government will improve their socio-economic well-being.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Jonathan Wasa, explained the government’s desire to have an accurate census of the animals in the reserve for record keeping.
