Leaders in the West African subregion will consult further on new strategies to resolve the political crisis rocking Mali.

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari said this on Tuesday at the State House when he received Nigeria’s former leader and ECOWAS Special Envoy to Mali, Goodluck Jonathan.

Buhari, who is Chairman of ECOWAS, thanked Jonathan, who was accompanied by the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Jean-Claude Kassi Brou for his comprehensive brief on the situation in Mali.

Mali has been rocked by protests against President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.

The opposition led by fiery cleric, Amadou Dicko, is insisting that the Constitutional Court be dissolved, and the President resign, before peace can return to the country.

Crisis had erupted after the court nullified results of 31 parliamentary seats.

Riots which broke out two weeks ago led to the killing of some protesters by security agents, causing the crisis to spiral out of control
