Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, has directed the immediate construction and rehabilitation of the Abuja-Koton-Karfe-Lokoja Road in Kogi State, destroyed by the 2022 flood.

Umahi said this during an inspection tour of the Abuja-Koton-Karfe-Lokoja-Ganaja and Ajaokuta Roads in Kogi State, as his first official assignment as works minister.

The 2022 floods in Nigeria wreaked havoc across towns and villages, especially in Kogi State, with about three thousand five hundred and four households and infrastructure affected, including a major Federal Government road in Kogi State alone.

The new Minister of Works, accompanied by the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, expressed shock at the level of road infrastructure collapse in the confluence state and, therefore, ordered the immediate construction and rehabilitation of the Abuja-Abuja-Koton-Karfe-Lokoja Road.

Governor Yahaya Bello says Kogi State’s geographical location serves as the gateway, connecting the northern and southern parts of the country; hence, the Federal Government needed to find a permanent solution to the hardships being experienced by motorists during the rainy season.

Governor Bello thanked President Bola Tinubu for giving priority attention to Kogi State, among the states that need quick Federal Government intervention in road rehabilitation and construction. (Editor: Ifeanyi Mark)
