Enugu Alleged Murder: House of Reps Ad Hoc Committee Receives Testimonies

The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating alleged gruesome murder of some Nigerians by soldiers in Enugu state, South East Nigeria, Thursday received chilling testimonies from the families of the affected victims.

Some injured survivors of the alleged incident which reportedly occurred on 29th June, 2023 in Udi Council Area, also appeared at the public hearing of the House of Representatives ad-hoc investigative Committee held at the Enugu state House of Assembly complex.

The five-member committee led by Representative Sanni Abdulraheem, explains that the committee was mandated to conduct a fact-finding on the alleged incident in Enugu State, South East Nigeria, calling for cooperation and support of those concerned.

Those who testified before the Committee alleged that the incident occurred when some military personnel opened fire on the community vigilante group who were on duty, accusing them of being suspected kidnappers.

Two persons were said to have lost their lives in the incident, while three others sustained various degree of injuries, some of the victims who sustained injuries and still receiving treatments at the hospital also gave accounts of what happened.

However, the testimonies of the military and the police to the investigative Committee of the House of Representatives were conducted under close doors The alleged shooting and killing of citizens was brought before the House of Representatives plenary by Sunday Umeha, the member representing Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, which prompted the House to set up the Ad hoc committee to investigate the incident.

The Committee members had earlier paid a courtesy visit on the Governor at the Government House, Enugu who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Ifeanyi Osai.
