2 killed, 17 women abducted, 8 rescued in fresh bandits attack on two Katsina Villages

Bandits in their numbers were said to have launched fresh attacks on two villages of Zakka in Safana Area Council and Kandawa village of Batsari Area Council kidnapping 17 women and killing two persons.

A source said the bandits who arrived the village early Sunday morning at about 12am shooting sporadically also kidnapped 17 women and rustled an unspecified number of animals.

Spokesman of the Katsina State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, while confirming and giving an update on the incidents to AIT via phone conversation, said the police and other security operatives are on top of the situation.

According to him, at Zakka village of Safana Area Council, ” what actually happened was that on Sunday night, bandits in their numbers went there, entered house to house and kidnapped 17 women but, the police went after them and rescued three victims.”

He further stated that, ” Later on, five others were returned making a total of eight women rescued while presently, nine are in the hands of the kidnappers”.

Isah added that the police and other security agencies are doing everything possible to rescue the remaining nine victims unhurt.

Similarly, early Wednesday morning at Kandawa village of Batsari Area Council, bandits also launched attack killing the imam of the village and another person.

Though the police are yet to give full details of the attack as at the time of filing this report, a source said the villagers are presently living in fears.
