Rivers State Government says it will not rest until all those behind the gruesome murder of the Divisional Police Officer, Ahoada Division, Bako Angbashim are apprehended.
Speaking after an emergency security meeting on Sunday, Governor Sim Fubara who expressed deep regret over the incident assures that all the perpetrators will be apprehended either dead or alive stressing that Rivers State will never be a home for criminality.
Superintendent of Police Bako Angbashim, who was the Divisional Police Officer of Ahoada Division in Rivers State, was gruesomely murdered on Friday, 8 September 2023
SP Bako and his team were ambushed around the Odiemudie Community in Ahoada East Local Government area while returning from an operation
He was said to have been shot in the ensuing gunfight, captured and then killed by his captors.
The Rivers State Government says credible intelligence from security agencies has traced the incident to a criminal gang led by one Gift David Okpara Okpolowu, also known as 2-baba
The gang has also been blamed for the resurgence of violent crimes, including kidnapping in Ahoada East local government area
Speaking after another emergency meeting of the Rivers State Security Council, Governor Sim Fubara says his administration will not rest until all those behind the heinous crime are brought to book.
He adds that his administration will not fold its arms and allow criminals and crimes to rear their ugly heads and thrive in any part of the state
Governor Fubara also sympathizes with the family of the deceased Police Officer.
The late SP Bako Angbashim was very popular with residents of Rivers State.
He was nicknamed “Wonderful DPO” because of his community policing strategies.
SP Bako was also credited with helping to restore peace in several communities in Ogoniland.
He died fighting to keep the people of Rivers State safe and secured
Governor Sim Fubara has promised to do everything to ensure that the sacrifice of the brave and dutiful officer does not go in vain
