The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, says the National Grid restoration process nationwide is in progress and has reached advanced stages after hours of power outage. It confirms that power Supply is “now available in the West, North Central, South, East, and a large portion of the Northern parts of Nigeria”.

This is contained in a statement by the TCN General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah sequel to the total power grid collapse which occurred at about 12.35am, on Thursday causing outage nationwide, after over 421 days of consistent grid stability. She says the grid restoration process initially suffered a setback during a routine check but it was promptly addressed.

Nigeria’s last total grid system collapse was recorded on July 20, 2022, and since then until the September 13, 2023 the system had been stable in spite of the challenges posed by zero spinning reserve and lack of System Control and lack of adequate Data Acquisition, SCADA which are essential to a strong and stable grid, among others

Meanwhile, the TCN has also informed Nigerians that the collapse that occurred after a fire incident on Kanji-Jebba 330kV Line 2 is being investigated, with the view to forestalling future occurrence and invariably to further strengthen the grid.
