The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Akwa Ibom State has a new chairman. He is Udo Ekpenyong who emerge at the rescheduled state party Congress held at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, the state capital.
Ekpenyong replaces Paul Ekpo who has served out his two term tenure. Until his emergence as the new State Party Chairman, Udo Ekpenyong who polled 3,840 votes out of 3,845 accredited delegates was the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and had resigned his appointment few days ago to contest for the position. He was the sole candidate for the position just like other officers elected along with him.
Governor Udom Emmanuel, congratulated the Paul Ekpo-led state executive for taking the party to enviable heights and advised the new Chairman and his Exco to take the party higher.
In his acceptance speech, Ekpenyong stated that his election was a clarion call on himself and the newly elected state Exco to move the party forward.
The state party congress was witnessed by PDP national officers and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
