The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has directed the management of the state-owned University to immediately pay the new lecturers employed by the institution who are being owed 9 months salaries.
The directive was contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase noting that the approval given to the Benue State University, BSU management was based on its request to only replace academic staff who had retired.
He stressed that the monthly subvention the University received from the State Government has not reduced and salaries of the new staff were factored in the allocations, so there is no reason for the non-payment of the over 100 affected lecturers.
Governor Ortom has given the BSU management this July to unfailingly pay the new lecturers.
Over a hundred new employees of the institution who resumed duty late last year or early this year are yet to be paid their entitlement whereas the old employees have been paid their salaries up till date.
