A Meeting between the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong and The Trade Union Congress, TUC has ended with no concrete agreements reached.

Answering questions from journalists at the end of the meeting, TUC President Festus Osifo said they came for progress report, after the two weeks time frame government had requested, when both parties met on September 4, 2023.

The TUC President said even though workers are impatiently waiting for results from such meetings, the TUC has decided to hold on to any action and to wait until President Bola Tinubu returns to the country from the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

He said The TUC would accept any government official assigned to dialogue with it on the wage award, Gas-powered vehicles and other palliatives for workers

Asked whether the seeming divide in Organised Labour between the Nigeria Labour Congress and TUC is affecting progress in the talks, Osifo said he is not aware and the TUC’s interest is to keep pushing to ensure the Nigerian Masses do not suffer from certain government policies.

The TUC has also threatened to shutdown lagos state by Next week in a protest and strike over the state government’s ill-treatment of officials of one of its affiliates, The Road Transport Employers Association Of Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the NLC has continued to keep mum over whether or not it would begin a strike on Thursday at the expiration of its ultimatum.
