The Trade Union Congress, TUC has declared one-day protest in Lagos State, South-West Nigeria on Monday, September 25.

The demonstration is ahead of the strike to protest against the State Government’s clampdown on the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, which is one of affiliates of TUC.

At a briefing in Abuja, TUC President Festus Osifo said the protest became necessary following what he described as the failure of the Lagos State Government to implement the court judgement on the matter.

He said a strike is usually the last option for trade unions and adding that the TUC hopes the state government takes decisive decision to avoid industrial action that may not only affect the state, but the nation at large.

Some affiliate members of TUC who are already mobilising their members include; Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN,, Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions, ASSBIFI and Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government Owned Companies.
