The Katsina state government has fixed 1st August of every year as prayer day to serve as thanksgiving for the bounties bestowed on the state as it marks 86 years of province creation.
Governor Aminu Masari who stated this at the special prayer session to mark the maiden commemoration of Thanksgiving day named Yaumush Shukur, said the aim of choosing the day is to ensure people of the state always show gratitude to God.
The prayer session held at the Usman Danfodio Juma’at mosque in the metropolis witnessed large gathering of Muslim faithful.
According to Masari, the date was selected, after the state history and culture bureau as well as other stakeholders were consulted and thereafter, recommended the date coinciding with the 86 years after katsina got its independence from Zaria province.
The governor also directed local governments and academic institutions to always observe 1st August as prayers day for the overall peace and development of the state.
Speaking at the prayer session, the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmuminu Usman expressed optimism that the event will unite the Katsina people, while frowning at antisocial acts inimical to the development of the state.

He also called on journalists not to encourage slandering and defamation of the characters of not only the leadership but also, people in the state.
In his remarks, the Emir of Daura, Farouk Umar, expressed gratitude to the Governor for providing good leadership in the state and prayed for continued Peace to help the state sustain its momentum of development.
