The Cross River State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has struck out the petitions filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and its 2023 governorship election candidate, Sandy Onor, against governor Bassey Otu, and his Deputy, Peter Odey of the All Progressives Congress, for lacking in merit.

The three-man tribunal panel sitting in Calabar, led by Justcie Oken Inneh, , ruled that there was no case in the suit jointly instituted by the PDP and Sandy Onor,as the governor and his deputy were qualified to have contested the election
Speaking with journalists after the judgment was read, counsel to the APC and its candidates, Mike Ozekhome, said the court agreed with the APC and its candidate on all the grounds.

The state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alphonsus Eba, commended Cross Riverians across party lines for voting and supporting governor Bassey Otu while the counsel of the PDP, Joshua Musa, commended the three man panel for judgment passed, adding that PDP will decide on the next course of action.

The PDP in its suit contested the educational eligibility of governor Bassey Otu to contest the March 18th governorship election, the APC membership of his deputy Peter Odey, and also alleging Odey has dual citizenship.
