Edo Politics: PDP Seeks IGP intervention

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has asked the Inspector General of Police, to bring to book those behind the purported removal of the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Francis Okiye.

The state PDP chairman, Tony Aziegbemi at a press conference in Benin city condemned the recent events crisis at the assembly complex.

Aiziegbemi said the action of the members-elect was “treasonable” and would spell doom for democracy if not dealt with.

He insisted the members-elect that were yet to be inaugurated should not claim to be members of the house as they were absent in the House for 180 days and their seats had been declared vacant, with a suit on the matter still before the court.

In another development members of the PDP who were runners-up in the 2019 house of assembly election, have asked INEC to issue them with Certificates of Return, or conduct fresh elections into the state constituency seats.

They premised their demand on the seats of the 14 members-elect having been declared vacant by the purportedly removed Speaker.

At a press conference they also condemned the alleged invasion of the EDHA, said the action amounts to a total disregard to judicial process.
