North-East State Governors meet in Borno State

Governors of states in North-East Nigeria, comprising Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe States, are meeting in Maiduguri the Borno State capital.

A statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media to Borno State Governor, Isa Gusau says, the meeting is a follow up to the first meeting of the Governors held in March this year in Gombe State.

The Governors went into closed door meeting shortly after a brief opening ceremony at the Government House in Maiduguri.

In attendance are the Governors of Adamawa, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri; Bauchi, Bala Mohammed and Gombe, Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya. Taraba and Yobe States are represented by their Deputy Governors. 

Borno Governor Zulum in his remarks, laid emphasis on the security challenges facing the region, problems of unemployment, over dependence on federal allocation and how to move the region forward.

The Governors will in addition to discussing security and development issues, receive presentations from the North-East Development Commission, NEDC; Lafarge Ashaka; the GMD NNPC; the AIG Zone 15 and the Nigerian Army led by the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole.

A communique is expected at the end of the meeting.
