Just In: Organised Labour to suspend planned nationwide indefinite strike

The Federal Government and Organised Labour have reached an agreement for suspension of planned nationwide indefinite strike after a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Addressing newsroom after the four-hour meeting, the NLC President, Joe Ajaero said the N25,000 announced by President Bola Tinubu in his Independence Day anniversary broadcast is now applicable across board and not only “low-grade worker”.

The Federal Government is also to remove 7.5% Value Added Tax, VAT on diesel to ensure reduction in price of the product that is mostly used to power generating plants in factories and offices.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government and Organised Labour are to continue with talks on Monday to further streamline issues surrounding fuel subsidy removal interventions.

Sunday’s meeting was chaired by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris. Others were the Minister of Budget and National Planning; Atiku Bagudu; Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejiocha and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
