The development came after a U.S Judge, Nancy Maldonado, adopted all rulings of Magistrate Judge, Jeffrey Gilbert ordering the immediate release of the academic records of Tinubu by the CSU.
Tinubu had objected to the ruling by Magistrate Judge, Jeffrey Gilbert but this was rejected by the District Court Judge.
The Chicago State University, CSU says it cannot locate the original copy of the Diploma certificate issued to Bola Tinubu in 1979.
This was contained in its response to the subpoena issued it by Atiku Abubakar based on the order of Magistrate Jeffery Gilbert which was affirmed by Judge Nancy Maldonado at the weekend
Request No. 2 of the subpoena specially asked for a true and correct copy of any diploma issued by CSU in 1979 to Mr. Tinubu. In response, CSU stated that “it does not in the ordinary course keep copies of student
diplomas, and after diligent search cannot locate a copy of the original diploma it prepared for Mr. Tinubu in 1979, hence has no documents responsive to this request”.
The University however responded in the affirmative to the request for it to produce a true and correct copy of any diploma for a Bachelor of Science degree issued by CSU in 1979, providing a list Bates labelled CSU 0001 – CSU 0007. While it provided a list of those it issued diplomas to in 1979, the names of the students’ on the diplomas were redacted for what it called privacy reasons.
The third request made to the university under subpoena was for it to produce true and correct copies of any diplomas issued by CSU (other than to Mr. Tinubu) that contain the same font, seal, signatures, and wording (other than the name of the recipient and the specific degree awarded). In response, CSU produced Bates labelled documents with the unique identifier CSU 0008 – CSU 0010, but without the names of the students. It also explained that the students’ names on the diplomas have been redacted for privacy
reasons.
According to one of Atiku Abubakar’s lawyers who spoke to AIT.live in confidence, the essence of seeking the diplomas of other students of CSU is to confirm whether it matches with the format of the Tinubu replacement diploma dated June 27, 1997.
It was also confirmed to AIT.live that other academic records provided by CSU as it concerns Tinubu are being reviewed to prepare for the deposition of officials of CSU on Tuesday.
