A pro-human rights group, Civil liberties organization, CLO says it has petitioned the international communities through their embassies to immediately impose strict sanctions and visa ban on the governor of Nasarawa state, Abdullahi Sule and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s returning officer, Ishaya Tanko for roles played in the March 18th governorship election.
Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja, the president of the group, Igho Akeregha explained that the action is to rein in anti-democratic elements who are bent on sabotaging Nigeria’s democracy with impunity.
The rights group pointed out that since the nullification of the governorship result where Governor Sule was declared the winner, he has been making statements capable of threatening the nation’s unity and independence of the judiciary and warned him to desist from such actions.

On October 2nd, the tribunal had dismissed the Nasarawa state March 18th governorship election result declared by the INEC’s returning officer, Tanko Ishaya for Lafia local government area over discrepancies in number of votes counted and accredited voters.
It however, pronounced the Peoples Democratic Party’s David Ombugadu the winner and ordered INEC to withdraw the certificate of return earlier presented to the All Progressives Congress’s candidate, Abdullahi Sule and hand it over to Ombugadu.
