The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has kicked against any plan by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, to include private universities among the beneficiary institutions of Federal Government projects.
ASUU President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, said this at a two-day interactive session between TETFund and all worker unions of Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The ASUU President said that such a move would lead to the proliferation of private universities, lacking quality and standards.

Osodeke demands improved strategies to monitor projects across the country and sanction erring institutions, insisting that most institutions are not matching the development with intervention funds received.
According to Osodeke, “ASUU will continue to embark on a strike until the right thing is done in the country’s tertiary institutions.
The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, disclosed that the interactive session was conceived as a proactive engagement, against the backdrop of the prevailing challenges in the subsector.
Echono noted that the engagement was also to sustain steady growth and development in tertiary education while stressing the need to consistently engage and challenge one another, on how best to improve the situation.
