As the international community celebrates World Food Day, the Nigerian government has been tasked with looking into issues affecting the development of the agricultural sector and propose solutions.

This report takes a look at the state of food security and efforts being made to improve the agricultural sector.

Of the basic needs for the survival of man, food is rated at the top of the chart; the lack of it becomes a serious problem.
As the saying goes, a hungry man is an angry man.Nigeria, with a large population, is known for its involvement in agricultural activities, especially on a subsistence level.

But sadly, the country hasn’t reached its full potential as the sector is bedevilled with insecurity and a shortage of Modern inputs, amongst others.

For the farmers, efforts should be put in place by the government to make agriculture more viable and attractive.

They also made calls for quick and timely distribution of farm inputs to enable farmers to maximise the cropping season.

With instability in the prices of petroleum products, which has for some time now been the major source of the nation’s revenue, governments at all levels are looking at agriculture as an option, but for the full benefits to be tapped, more investments are needed.
