Nigerians have been tasked on the need to go for regular eye checks in order to reduce cases of preventable blindness that are fast destroying many people.

This is the message coming out from a one-day eye screening exercise organized by the Plateau State Correspondents Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists in collaboration with Sightsaver International.

The free medical service was part of activities to mark the 2023 World Sight Day.

The NUJ leadership say, the screening exercise gave journalists who are always on the move looking for news without paying much attention to their personal health, the opportunity to get their eyes tested for proper follow-ups.

The Plateau State Commissioner for Information, Musa Ibrahim Ashoms who also participated in the programme, commended the gesture and charged the organizers to always create awareness on matters of great concern to enable the government to take the right actions.

Some of the beneficiaries applauded the free services, as it afforded them the opportunity to know the state of their sight and equally get the right treatments.

They called on governments and all key players in the Nigerian society to make healthcare services more affordable and accessible so that the common man could benefit.
