Malaria Prevention: Kwara State Flags-off Distribution Of Insecticide Treated Nets

Authorities in Kwara State have commenced the distribution of over 2.2million free insecticide treated nets to residents across the sixteen Local Government Areas, as a way of managing the scourge of malaria sicknesses in the North Central State of Nigeria.

Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq who described the Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) as an effective tool to tackle the menace of malaria, urged citizens to embrace its use.

The Governor explained that through the protection the net provides against mosquito bites at night when properly used, much of the malaria sickness breakouts would be prevented.

Abdulrazaq promised to continue to pay prompt attention to the health needs of the masses, while urging the people to collect and put into proper use, the mosquito nets as it remain an effective tool to tackle the menace of malaria in the country adding that it has helped to bring the prevalence of malaria to as low as 20% from the previous 27% recorded in 2018.

The team lead of the National Malaria Elimination Programme, Dr Issa Kawu appeals to the traditional rulers and religious leaders to assist in encouraging Nigerians use the insecticide treated nets.
