Zamfara State House of Assembly has passed into law, a bill for the Establishment of the State Council and Bureau on Public Procurement.
Speaker of the state Assembly, Nasiru Muazu, described the bill as the first in the state.
He said if passed into law, it will be responsible for monitoring, oversight of public procurement, and harmonizing existing government’s policies.
The Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Muhammad Jangeru, said the bill will ensure due process, accountability, and transparency in government business.
He also said that since the creation of Zamfara State, there has never been a bill that ensures monitoring and checkmating the government’s policies on procurement in the state.
Jangeru said it is against this background that he solicited for the support of the members, to allow the bill scale its third reading.
However, a bill for the restructuring of Zamfara State Zakat and Endowment Board did not scale through its first reading and was returned to the Committee on Religious Affairs, to fine-tune it for deliberation and consideration.
The Zamfara State House of Assembly has passed two bills into law this week.
