Nigeria's Minister Of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman

Nigeria’s Minister Of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman says the sector has great policies on paper, which have failed to meet its demands.

Mamman was speaking at the Presentation of a new education road map in Abuja, where the Chairman, the House of Representatives Committee on University education is advocating an increase in the salaries of teachers at primary, secondary and tertiary education levels.

The Education Minister, Professor Tahir Mamman told the gathering that the decision to begin a new road map, is to make Nigeria’s education more competitive and for it to meet today’s demands of industries.

Mamman’s position is supported by the Minister of State for Education and other education key players at the event.

For Lawmakers, beyond strategies to address the “japa” syndrome, a social expression for high numbers of Nigerians migrating outside the country to seek for greener pastures, there is urgent need to increase teachers pay.

ait.live reports that it is the expectations of many education sector watchers that the new road map, will not gather dust in shelves like previous efforts.
