An attempt by child traffickers to sell a six year old boy has been foiled by security operatives in Abia State.
The Abia Commissioner for Women Affairs & Social Development, Ukachi Amala, who stated this in Umuahia said, the government is leaving no stone unturned to arrest and prosecute perpetrators of child violence and trafficking.
Amala who was reacting on two cases of child maltreatment and child trafficking narrated how a 17-year-old girl from Akwa-Ibom State, employed to serve as House Help in Aba, ended up becoming a victim of assault and maltreatment from her mistress.
She re-emphasised that Abia State is a no go area for baby factory and the state cannot be comfortable with anyone involved in child trafficking, rape and molestation.
According to the Commissioner, the State House of Assembly recently passed into law, the Gender-based Violence Act to tackle such cases.
