Three weeks after an exclusive report by ait.live showing how Nigerian border officials are violating the government imposed border closure with Niger Republic in Katsina state, the Customs comptroller in charge of Kano and Jigawa Command has stepped up monitoring to ensure that government directive is not violated.
The comptroller, during a tour of the border towns in Jigawa state, tasked men of the service to be extra vigilant in view of the withdrawal of French troops from the Niger Republic border.
The Customs Comptroller in charge of the Jigawa and Kano states of Nigeria, contiguous with Niger Republic Dauda Ibrahim is visiting the Maigatari border town in Jigawa state, as well as the Jeke border in Babura
The visit comes amid reports of movement across the border between the two countries even when a border closure order is supposed to be in force as directed by the Nigerian President.

The customs official explains that there is need to ensure high levels of alert around the border.
According to Ibrahim, the border closure is still in force. He explains that the withdrawal of French troops following the ouster of President Mohammed Bazoum, has created extra responsibility for officials manning the border areas
