The Joint Health Sector Union and Assembly of Healthcare Professionals have directed members to stop work from midnight of sunday, September 13.

The strike followed expiration of a 15-day notice issued to the Nigerian government over its reluctance to fix errors and omission in the COVID-19 hazard allowance.

At a briefing after its expanded National Executive meeting, the health workers insisted the Minister of State for Labour, Festus Keyamu lead the Federal Government negotiating team on all their issues especially salary adjustment.

There are fears Nigeria’s fragile health sector could be crippled in a few days as a result of the industrial
action by resident doctors and allied health workers.

While the association of resident doctors began its strike on Monday, September 7, the Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU has fixed its strike to begin on Sunday, September 13.

On allegations of anti-labour practices leveled against the Rivers State Government, the health workers called on Governor Nyesom Wike to prove his critics wrong by meeting the demands of the State workers.
