Business and vehicular activities were disrupted on Wednesday as protesters under the aegis of Ikpoba hill youths in Ikpoba Okha local government area of Edo state blocked all link roads to access the dilapidated Benin /Agbor road.

The youths who carried placards bearing various inscriptions want government to fix the deplorable road in the next five days else they would take over the road until it is done.

The protesting youths blocked the Benin Agbor road to articulated trucks, motorcycles and commercial vehicles plying the road to their various destinations over government’s uncaring attitude to the plight of the people over the deplorable state of the road for many months now

Commuters including students and workers had to disembark from the vehicles they boarded when it dawned on them that the youths had blocked all roads in and out of the Benin/ Agbor road, including link roads like Amufi and Christ chosen which had been alternative roads for motorists since the Agbor road deteriorated.

The protesting youths are demanding that government begins urgent remedial work on the road which they say has affected all spheres of life of citizens working, living and doing business around Agbor road and its environs.

While the Police were fully on ground to ensure that the protest was peaceful, the area commander of Ikpoba hill Abdu Sala wants the youths to allow for free flow 0f traffic as they await government intervention.

As at the time of filing this report, the roads were still blocked to vehicular movement as residents and motorists were unsure if the government will yield to the demands of the youths to begin remedial measures on the road in the next five days.
