The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission has fixed the state local government polls for December 12, 2020.

Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, Mamman Ndaeri, made this public in Lokoja, the state capital, at a declaration of notice for the conduct of the council polls

The much awaited local government elections in Kogi State were put on hold due to movement restrictions occasioned by the Covid-19 outbreak.

But with the easing of the third phase of the lockdown in Nigeria and the need to have elected officials at the third tier of government at the earliest possible opportunity, the Chairman of the State Electoral Commission announced the date for the election.

The Commission Chairman was quick to caution stakeholders on the rules of the game.

Keyplayers in the Kogi State electoral landscape said they are ready and will do their best preparing for the elections.

According to the timetable released by the electoral umpire, party primaries will hold from October 6 to 13, 2020, a process through which candidates will emerge to fly the flags of their respective parties at ward and council elections across the 21 local government areas.
