The Federal Government Of Nigeria, in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organisation, FAO is working out modalities on promoting integrated landscape management and sustainable food systems with focus on Ondo and Cross River States.

This is part of efforts to promote sustainable Cocoa and Oil Palm production systems in the two states.

The Global Partnership on Forest and Landscape Restoration, GPFLR, is a proactive global network that unites governments, organizations, academic or research institutes, communities and individuals under a common goal which is to restore the world’s lost and degraded forests and their surrounding landscapes.

As part of the global network, Nigeria is adopting a range of policies to ensure a sustainable management of its forest and ecosystems, to improve food security as well as reduce emissions by 2030.

FAO Country Representative, Fred Kafeero says the aim of the programme is to consider the inherent potentials of the Nigerian rain forest and the country’s need for cultivation of diverse agricultural commodities, like oil palm, cocoa and cassava in a sustainable manner.

These experts believe that the Nigerian environment has been under intense pressure, therefore recommend immediate action to eradicate degradations occasioned by both human activities and natural alterations.
