A group of physically challenged persons has stormed the streets of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital; protesting alleged acts of employment discrimination against them in the country.
The protesters occupied the premises of NICOM in Garki District in the Federal Capital Territory to register their grievances; saying they have been neglected for too long in the scheme of things especially as regards employment opportunities.
According to them, some government agencies deliberately ignore the 5% employment opportunity for persons living with disabilities as contained in the Disability Act.
For them, the discriminatory act that excludes them from gainful employment has further jeopardized their existence in Nigeria.
They called on Nigerian authorities to come to their aid and put an end to acts of discrimination against persons living with disabilities especially in the area of appointments and job recruitments.
