Obaseki, Ize-yamu sign peace pact

Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, and his main challenger, Osagie Ize-Iyamu in Saturday’s election, have joined the twelve other candidates to sign a peace pact for a violence-free poll.

The signing ceremony midwived by the National Peace Committee, chaired by a former military Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu represented by a Deputy Inspector General, Adele Oyebanji assured the electorate of adequate security before, during and after the election, while the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare the second who was represented by the Esogban of Benin, David Edebiri also exhorted the political actors to give peace a chance in the election.

The chairmen of the fourteen political parties contesting the governorship election had appended their signatures to the peace pact, alongside the candidates.

Governor Godwin Obaseki of the PDP and Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC hugged each other upon signing the document.
