Stakeholders in the health sector in Enugu State, South East Nigeria want the federal government to intervene in the on going nationwide strike by the Joint Health Sector Union, JOHESU.

Our correspondent reports that the strike action has paralyzed medical services in some government owned hospitals in the state.

A healthy nation they say is a wealthy nation, the on going nationwide strike action embarked by the Joint Health Sector Union has been described as an unfortunate development as the authorities are being accused of not showing sensitivity to the plight of the patients.

A visit to some public hospitals in parts of Enugu State reveals that many departments have been deserted and are under lock and key while patients have been moved out by their relations to private health facilities.

Some labour leaders who reacted to the development lament that the government has not demonstrated any political will to improve on the nation’s health sector.

Some of the demands by the union include the payment of the April and May 2018 withheld salaries, retirement age of health workers to be 65 years, full payment of COVID 19 allowances, among others

Although medical doctors were seen busy attending to patients in some public hospitals, but the ongoing nationwide strike action by members of the Joint Health Sectors Union, JOHESU has no doubt begun to impact negatively on medical services in Enugu State.
