Women from the various oil-bearing rural communities in Bayelsa State have staged a peaceful protest to the office of the Niger Delta Development Commission in Yenagoa, the state capital.
The women numbering about a hundred, carried placards on which their grievances were highlighted.
They decried what they termed, abandonment by the NDDC, saying they have been constantly by-passed in employment opportunities, even as their environments have been negatively impacted by years of oil exploration.
The NDDC’s Manager for Community and Rural Development, Bayelsa State, Diete Amufamonyo, who addressed the women, said their demands would be relayed to the management.
He assured that positive steps would be taken to alleviate their sufferings.

The women have, however, vowed to take more decisive actions if their demands are ignored, as have been done in the past.
