Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara

Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara has apologised to the people of the state over the recent political crisis in the state, saying that it was regrettable.

The governor says his visit to the State House of Assembly following the late Sunday night fire that gutted its chambers was to assess the level of damage and undertake remedial measures to protect lives and property within the complex.

In a statement he personally signed, Governor Fubara said he received reports shortly after that the House of Assembly had broken into two factions: one claiming to have impeached and suspended the House leader and 3 others preparatory to initiating an impeachment action against him and the other rival faction impeaching the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, thus sparking off some form of political crisis.

He says his actions were aimed at restoring peace and stability in the state.

He adds that as a man of peace and as Governor, the advancement of our state is his primary concern, and no sacrifice will be too much for him to achieve the objective.

Governor Fubara said it is his responsibility and that of the immediate past Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to leverage their positions and influences within and outside the state to advance the progress, security and well-being of the people.

Governor Fubara said he is always willing and ready to embrace the path to lasting peace and tranquility.

He also uses the opportunity to thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his fatherly intervention, which opened a series of communication channels to facilitate the timely resolution of the festering crises.

He also did not forget to thank the PDP Governors Forum and the Rivers State Elders who are currently intervening in the matter.

He further assured the people of the State that peace will prevail and that they will continue to work together to advance the state
