Okowa admonishes resident doctors on sanctity of their calling

Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has called on medical doctors to seek other ways of pressing home their demands in place of strike actions which usually leave its brunt on the poorest of the society.

Okowa made this call when he received in his office members of the Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, led by its first Vice President, Julian Ojebo, who were in Delta State for its 40th annual general meeting. He said the medical profession is distinct and should be treated as such.

Governor Okowa thanked the resident doctor for calling off the strike action they recently embarked upon and urged them to always bear in mind that lives lost during strike actions could not be brought back unlike every other union.

He described their agitation as a just cause but advised them to embrace better means of achieving their goals devoid of leaving behind unending pains to the vulnerable in the society even as he charged government at all levels to try to keep to their promises.

Governor Okowa believes that the initial hiccups of the National Health Insurance Scheme are gradually fizzling out with the creation of the ambulances for emergency management. He noted that its regular funding will bolster the nation’s primary health sector.

The NARD first Vice Chairman, who eulogised Governor Okowa’s contribution to the health sector as a legislature and Governor, announced the body’s unanimous decision to confer him with the NARD meritorious award for ambassador of state health services.
