Zamfara State government has been asked to demonstrate political will to sanitize the Ministry of Finance, to curb corruption.

The Chairman of the Project Verification Committee, Ahmed Zabarma, said this while presenting the committee’s report to Governor Bello Mohammed in Gusau, the state capital.

The project verification committee chairman expressed displeasure over the attitude of some top officials of the Ministry of Finance, which made the committee’s task cumbersome, as they refused to provide necessary information and documents which the committee demanded in the course of its assignment.

He accused some of the staff of being accomplices in the diversion of N107 billion Naira from the state cofers.

Zabarma called on the Governor to set up a Commission of Enquiry to investigate over invoicing, fraudulent, and fictitious contracts.

The committee also wants the state government to give attention to some abandoned projects, such as the state’s Investment House, girls hostel accommodation at the College of Education, Maru, among others.

Governor Mohammed appreciated the effort of the committee in carrying out its assignment and promised to implement the recommendations, to make Zamfara State better.

The committee noted that lack of due process and proper oversight are some of the factors responsible for corruption and poor
governance, which the administration should not condone.
