The Nigerian Government has launched a targeted expansion of the market moni scheme of the federal government targeted at underprivileged, vulnerable and marginalized market women.

Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, said during the launch of the Programme on Wednesday in Abuja that the effort is to provide a platform for economic empowerment of small-scale business owners with limited resources to help them become self-reliant entrepreneurs when equipped with skills and a supportive environment.

Market Moni is an empowerment scheme of the federal government, targeted at underprivileged, vulnerable and marginalized market women like widows, divorcees from ages 18 to 55 engaged in petty trading.

The wife of the president, senator Oluremi Tinubu, said that by supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the federal government is empowering local entrepreneurs to generate employment thereby offering a lifeline to those struggling to make ends meet.

She expressed optimism that government’s efforts would help to reduce unemployment rate and enhance the overall well-being of individuals and families.

The scheme is one of government’s enterprise and empowerment programme, GEEP, under the National Social Investment Programme saddled with the responsibility of offering interest and collateral-free loans to the very poor members of the Nigerian society.
