The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi says it has become critical to promote access to justice and rule of law, describing it as an effective and efficient justice system that will guarantee peace, stability, economic growth and development in Nigeria.
Fagbemi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria was speaking at Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital during the opening ceremonies of the South East summit on: Criminal Justice Reforms and Presentation of Model State Correctional Service Laws.
It’s the opening event of a policy summit on criminal justice reforms as the body of South East Attorny Generals and other delegates converged on Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital to brainstorm on simple, practical and cost effective mechanisms for crime management, caseload reductions and custodial centers decongestions.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN urged stakeholders in the region to continue to support measures that will ensure effective implementation of the administration of criminal justice laws as well as work on improving same through appropriate legislative amendments.
“The President in his renewed hope agenda is also keying into the justice sector reforms to compliment what’s happening today in the South East. … President Tinubu is a renowned advocate and champion of federalism and I wish to inform you that he’s delighted in this development”, the Minister said.
Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru while declaring the summit open, notes the benefits of implementing the outcome of the deliberations, urging practitioners and stakeholders to understand the dynamics of emerging legal principals and their applicability in the field of criminal justice administration.
The summit ends on Friday this week.
